Sunday weather: no respite from heat anytime soon

WEB DESK: On Sunday, the weather is expected to be hot and dry in most parts of the country, while it will be extremely hot in the plains, predicts Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). However, in the evening or later hours of the night, some areas in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan may see partly cloudy skies, with rain and thundershowers.

Going region by region, PMD predicts that Islamabad and its surrounding areas will get hot and dry weather, with mercury shooting up even more during the day.

Likewise, the weather is expected to be extremely hot and dry in most districts of Punjab. In the afternoon, strong and dusty windstorm is also predicted for the plains.

The weather is expected to be hot and dry in most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as well, while it is expected to be extremely hot in the plains. However, rain with strong winds and thundershowers is expected at a few places in Dir, Swat, Chitral, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mohmand, Khyber and its surroundings.

For Sindh, the situation will not be very different with most areas expected to get extremely hot and dry on Sunday. Strong and dusty winds are expected during this time for some areas in Sindh too.

Hot and dry weather is expected in most districts of Balochistan, while extremely hot weather is expected in the plains.

Gilgit-Baltistan, however, will remain partly cloudy with rain and thundershowers expected at a few places, but Kashmir will follow suit with rest of the country with hot and dry.

Meanwhile, the met department has also issued a heatwave alert, expected to continue until June 12. During this time, daytime temperatures are likely to be 5-7 degrees Celsius higher than normal in the upper areas of the country, including Islamabad, Central and Upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as well as Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. The southern areas of the country are likely to get temperatures 4-6 degrees Celsius higher than normal, including Upper and Central Sindh, South Punjab and Balochistan.
