LAHORE: The Christian community across Punjab is holding prayer programs today in churches across the province. To ensure the safety of citizens and to prevent any untoward incident, Punjab police has been put on high alert on Sunday.
Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar has issued orders for regional police officers (RPOs) and district police officers (DPOs) to increase security arrangements in churches.
He has also directed the supervisory officers to check the security arrangements of churches and important places themselves.
Additional police personnel and snipers should be deployed at sensitive churches, IGP Anwar directed. Moreover, the Dolphin Squad, Police Response Unit (PRU), and elite teams have been ordered to conduct effective patrols around churches across the province.
Punjab Police is also continuing the search and sweep operations around churches, Christian settlements and sensitive places in the province.
IGP Anwar also urged scholars, the Christian community, as well as members of peace committees to promote interfaith harmony.
