Sri Lanka in control at end of session 2 on day 4

Sri Lanka Bangladesh

GALLE: While Bangladesh managed to stop Sri Lanka from levelling the scores in the second session, taking four wickets after lunch to end their first innings, the Lions returned the favour, dismissing two Bangladeshi batters within the first 20 overs of their second innings.

Nayeem Hasan’s five-fer

Hasan Mahmud took the first wicket after lunch, bowling Milan Rahtnayake for his third dismissal of the match. Nayeem Hasan took over from there, dismissing both Kamindu Mendis who left the field on 87 runs, and Tharindy Rathnayake, who was dismissed for a duck. Hasan would end the Lions’ first innings shortly after in the 132nd over, bowling Asitha Fernando to complete his five-fer.

Sri Lanka take control

Sri Lanka returned the favour immediately, dismissing Anamul Haque in the eight over of Bangladesh’s second innings. Anamul only managed to make four runs off 20 deliveries before he was caught behind on a delivery from Prabath Jayasuriya that nicked the bat on its way to Kusal Mendis. The Lions struck again in the 20th over, dismissing Mominul Haque who made 14 runs off 40 delviereies. A sweep attempt gone awry top edged the ball onto Mominul’s own helmet, which popped the ball up to short point where Lahiru Udara made the catch.

Shadman Islam is currently leading the charge for Bangladesh, as he sits just six runs short of a half century. Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto joins him on the field, but has yet to get going, only having scored 2 runs off the five deliveries he’s faced.

Bangladesh stand at 65 for two at the tea break.
