Humaira Asghar’s father refuses to collect remains

KARACHI: The case of model and actress Humaira Asghar’s death has taken a troubling turn as her family has refused to take responsibility for her body, police confirmed on Wednesday.

According to SHO Gizri, Farooq Sanjrani, police were able to contact Humaira’s father after retrieving contact numbers from her mobile phone.

However, her father flatly refused to come to Karachi and collect the body. “He told us he had severed ties with her long ago,” the SHO said.

Police then reached out to Humaira’s brother and requested him to intervene. He eventually made his father speak to police again, but the father reiterated, “We have nothing to do with Humaira.”

The SHO said they tried to convince the father to arrive in Karachi for the body and legal formalities, but he has not contacted police again since.

“This has delayed the process. We are still hoping the family comes forward soon so we can proceed,” SHO Farooq Sanjrani told reporters.

Humaira Asghar’s weeks-old body was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a flat located in DHA Phase 6 by the police.

According to the sources, she had been living alone in Karachi for the past seven years. Reports also say that she didn’t pay her house rent since 2024. Her body, which was found several days after her passing, was discovered by a bailiff who visited the property as part of a legal case initiated by the landlord.

The police are still clueless regarding the cause of her death. Investigations are ongoing, but the refusal of the family to claim her remains is hindering further procedures.

Police say legal handover of the body cannot take place unless immediate family comes forward.
