Sindh reports first dengue-related death of the year

KARACHI: Sindh has recorded its first dengue-related fatality of 2025, the provincial health department confirmed on Saturday. According to a statement issued by the Sindh Health Department, a 48-year-old woman from Karachi succumbed to the mosquito-borne virus during treatment on Friday.

The department said the patient had tested positive for dengue on July 23 and was under medical care when her condition deteriorated.

Six new dengue cases surface in Islamabad

The latest death has prompted renewed concerns over the spread of dengue fever, particularly in urban centres such as Karachi, where seasonal outbreaks have become a recurring public health challenge. Health officials have urged residents to take precautionary measures, including eliminating stagnant water sources and using mosquito repellents.

The department is expected to issue fresh guidelines next week to curb the risk of further infections.

Following rains in Islamabad, six new cases of dengue virus were reported in Islamabad during the first week of July. At a meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Irfan Memon, officials revealed that 333 larvae had been detected in the capital over the last 10 days.

The meeting was briefed about the ongoing operations under the anti-dengue campaign in the federal capital. The meeting was briefed on larval hotspots and the measures being taken to curb the spread of the virus.
