Khawaja Shams ul Islam was a renowned lawyer, who was shot dead at a funeral in Karachi on Friday. According to eye witnesses, a man was seen firing a gun and fleeing the scene, while shouting that he had avenged his father.

“I had a personal enmity with Shams ul Islam and I alone killed him,” said Afridi. “My friends, family and relatives have nothing to do with this. I was a peaceful citizen, but injustice has turned me into a criminal, and I deeply regret that.”
Afridi alleged that Shams ul Islam and his father were once friends but had a falling out over Rs3.5 million.
According to him, the lawyer not only physically assaulted his father but also had him jailed on false charges, pushing him into mental illness.
Imran Afridi further claimed that a year later, Khawaja Sham sul Islam kidnapped and tortured his father again before shooting him dead.

“We knocked on the doors of justice for four years but got none because he was a powerful and influential lawyer,” Afridi said, also accusing the deceased of being involved in the suspicious killing of his own driver.
The suspect added that on November 14, 2024, he had a confrontation with Khawaja Shams ul Islam that left the latter with minor injuries. Afterwards, the lawyer allegedly lodged false terrorism cases against Afridi and his family, leading to the arrest and ongoing detention of his “innocent brothers”.
Police have yet to independently verify Afridi’s claims, while legal experts say the confessional video will be a key part of the investigation.
