FAISALABAD: Four people were killed when two rival groups exchanged fire in the emergency ward of Civil Hospital Faisalabad on Friday afternoon, triggering panic among patients and their families.

According to initial reports, the clash between the groups had first erupted at their homes earlier in the day.

Later, both sides arrived at the hospital to obtain medico-legal certificates (MLCs). When they came face-to-face inside the emergency ward, an argument broke out which quickly escalated into gunfire.

Hospital officials said that three people died on the spot including two real brothers while two others sustained serious injuries.

One of the injured later succumbed to his wounds during treatment, raising the death toll to four.

The sudden gunfire spread fear among patients, attendants, and hospital staff, forcing many to rush out of the emergency ward. Eyewitnesses said the scene turned chaotic as people screamed and tried to seek shelter.

Police contingents reached the hospital soon after the incident, cordoned off the area, and shifted the bodies to the morgue. Rescue teams also moved the injured to the operation theatre.

Authorities said a case will be registered against those involved, while teams have been formed to trace and arrest the attackers.

IG PUNJAB TAKES NOTICE

Inspector General (IG) of Punjab Police Dr. Usman Anwar has taken notice of the firing incident at Faisalabad’s Civil Hospital and sought a report from RPO Faisalabad.

According to a police spokesperson, the IG Punjab has directed CPO Faisalabad to ensure the immediate arrest of those involved in the shooting, instructing that all available resources be utilised to apprehend the suspects.

The spokesperson added that CPO Faisalabad, SSP Operations, and SP Lyallpur were present at the scene along with police teams. Forensic teams have also collected evidence. The CPO assured that the culprits would be arrested soon.
