cypher inquiry

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) reserved decision on Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) request for in-camera hearing.

FIA’s counsel Salman Safdar requested that the next hearing be held in a couple of days.

IHC Chief Justice Amir Farooq said that the court will set a date for rehearing the case.

Last week, Justice Aamir Farooq passed an order declaring that the bail application would be heard in an open court.

Supreme Court’s decree on Faizabad dharna revision case

On Sunday, FIA filed an application for in-camera proceedings of PTI Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman’s bail plea in the cipher case. FIA’s position is that the case involves sensitive information and documents.

However, PTI has reiterated its demand for an open trial and has announced that they would oppose FIA’s request.

The FIA has invoked Sections 5 and 9 of the Official Secrets Act, potentially resulting in a death sentence or imprisonment ranging from two to 14 years upon conviction. Although the investigation agency mentioned 27 witnesses in the challan, sources indicate that approximately a dozen of them will be presented as witnesses during the proceedings.
