KP Governor’s misuse of state helicopter sparks controversy

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Ghulam Ali is facing trouble because a video of him using a government helicopter for a family and friends’ trip to Swat has gone viral on social media.

In the video, you can see the governor getting on the helicopter with his two grandsons. They traveled around Swat and then, on their way back to Peshawar, the governor also brought a friend and their kids on the helicopter.

When asked about it, the governor said he took his grandsons because they were on a school holiday.

But this incident reminds people of other times when high-ranking officials were criticized for using official helicopters for their own personal trips.

Ironically, Governor Ghulam Ali had criticized a former chief minister, Mahmood Khan, for doing the same thing with the official helicopter and said he wouldn’t allow it to land at the Governor’s House.

However, later, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly passed a law that allowed government officials to use the helicopter for official purposes

Back then KP governor had also voiced opposition to the bill and said that he would send back the helicopter bill. However, later he gave assent to it with reluctance.
