US restaurant charges ‘adult surcharge’ for unruly children

GEOROGIA: A restaurant in the United States has introduced an unusual policy that imposes an “adult surcharge” on customers unable to control their children during their dining experience.

According to Sky News, Toccoa Riverside Restaurant discreetly places the charge at the bottom of its menu, indicated by three dollar signs, alongside the phrase: “For adults unable to parent. No respect, no service.”

Several diners have unexpectedly encountered the charge when settling their bills, leading to controversy.

One customer, Kyle Landmann, shared his experience in an online review, stating, “The owner came out and told me he was adding $50 (£41) to my bill because of my children’s behavior. My kids watched a tablet until the food arrived, ate their food, and my wife took them outside while I waited and paid the bill.”

Landmann’s wife, Lyndsey Landmann, was equally surprised by the situation, saying, “I remember thinking, ‘no way is this real.’ The kids were sitting at one end of the table, and they were being so good. I even commented halfway through the meal: ‘I can’t believe how well-behaved they are.'”

However, after completing their meal, the owner presented them with the charge, alleging that their children were “being too loud” and “running around outside.”

Another customer, Danielle Hampy, had a similar experience and warned others to avoid the restaurant if they have children. She claimed that the owner created a scene in front of the entire establishment, accusing them of having unruly children.

The restaurant was contacted for more information, but an employee refused to provide further comments, expressing, “We’re not going to comment on a policy we’ve had for years. We just want to live in the woods and cook.”
