NEPRA hikes electricity price by 40 paise per unit

The National Electric Power  Regularity Authority (NEPRA) sanctioned yet another increase in electricity tariffs, instituting a quarterly modification of Rs1.7432 per unit for the upcoming three months.

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has issued a notification to increase the price of electricity by 40 paise per unit for the month of September due to the fuel price adjustment.

The additional collections from the electricity consumers will be made in the November bills. However, the increase will not be applicable to the Lifeline and K Electric customers, according to the NEPRA notification.

NEPRA said that the increase was made due to the higher cost of fuel used for power generation in September.

Over 260 cases of electricity theft uncovered in LESCO’s crackdown

Government-owned distribution companies (DISCOs) had sought NEPRA’s approval for the recovery of additional expenses incurred during the provision of electricity services.

The financial implications of this tariff hike are staggering. It is estimated that the DISCOs aim to collect a substantial sum of Rs6.61 billion as a substitute against electricity theft and line losses.
