Exercise Sea Guardian, initially launched in 2014, has evolved into a crucial platform for fostering collaboration and enhancing maritime security measures between Pakistan and China. Commodore Malik highlighted the exercise’s historical background during the briefing.

This year’s Sea Guardian 2023 exercise is structured into two pivotal phases, the Harbor Phase and the Sea Phase, offering a comprehensive approach to naval cooperation and preparedness. Commodore Malik elaborated on the key elements of each phase.

During the Harbor Phase, which preceded the media briefing, workshops, seminars, and discussions were conducted to facilitate a seamless exchange of knowledge and ideas. The goal was to create synergy between the Pakistani and Chinese navies.

Commencing from November 14 in Pakistan’s territorial waters, the Sea Phase (C phase) is set to showcase the military capabilities of both countries. During this stage, the naval forces will demonstrate their prowess in maritime security and conduct search and rescue operations, contributing to a heightened level of operational preparedness.

Frontline frigates along with air and other assets and special forces from Pakistani and Chinese navies will carry out advanced-level joint drills and naval manoeuvres in the North Arabian Sea besides professional and social activities during the harbour phase.

The Sea Guardian exercise holds strategic importance as it will play a crucial role in refining operational procedures and strategies to address common threats at sea. Senior Captain Chi Jian emphasised the practical significance of the exercise in enhancing the capabilities of both naval forces.
