In the midst of mounting criticism from political adversaries, Marriyum Aurangzeb, the Information Secretary of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), asserted that her party’s rivals can perceive Nawaz Sharif’s imminent return as prime minister following the upcoming February 8 elections.

During a press conference in Lahore on Saturday, the former federal minister emphasised that the PML-N’s manifesto centers on providing relief to the people. Marriyum underscored the need to transcend personal interests, stating, “Our political rivals can also see that Nawaz Sharif will become the next prime minister.”

Addressing the recent statement by Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari regarding transparent elections, Marriyum welcomed his remarks as “encouraging.” Zardari expressed confidence in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to ensure fair and transparent conduct of the polls slated for February 8.

Unperturbed by criticisms, Marriyum affirmed the PML-N’s commitment to relieving the people, stating, “We are not worried by any words or taunts; we have to give relief to the people.” She also highlighted the commencement of the party’s political campaign on October 21 with the return of party supremo Nawaz Sharif.

Commenting on Shehbaz Sharif’s acquittal in the Aashiana Iqbal reference, Marriyum noted that the former prime minister was vindicated once again. She pointed out that Shehbaz faced accusations of corruption in 56 companies.

Addressing the circumstances of the 2018 elections, Marriyum alleged that the then government’s imposition on the country was a result of the deliberate failure of the result transmission system (RTS). She emphasised the need for today’s youth to understand the political maneuvers that transpired during that period.
