ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) reserved a verdict in the case of the removal of the former chairman of PTI from the party leadership on Tuesday.

A five-member bench, headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja, heard the case.

PTI ex-chairman’s lawyer Advocate Shoaib Shaheen and Khalid Mehmood Advocate, the petitioner in the case, appeared before the bench.

Babar to move ECP today challenging PTI’s intra-party elections

During the hearing, Advocate Shaheen said that the PTI had submitted to the ECP record of the intra-party elections. “Now this chapter should be closed,” he said, adding, “From the legal point of view, there is no case right now since the PTI has got its new chairman.”

Addressing the CEC, he went on to say that if the bench wanted to go ahead with the hearing of the case, then it should wait for Akbar S. Babar to file the petition.

The CEC remarked, “Do you want the petitioner in the case to now also challenge the party chairmanship of Barrister Gohar Khan?”

Petitioner Khalid Mehmood argued no one recognized PTI’s intra-party elections including PTI founder member Akbar S Babar.

He further argued that ECP wrote in the order PTI chairman is a convicted person and could not hold any position in the party.

Chief Election Commissioner Sultan Sikandar Raja said that the founder chairman of PTI did not contest the election, we cannot say anything about it.
