ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is planning to resume its point of sale (POS) invoicing prize scheme in March, after a year-long suspension.
The scheme aims to encourage consumers to demand receipts from tier-I retailers, who are required to install POS machines that are integrated with the FBR’s system.
According to sources, the FBR has completed discussions with tier-I retailers, card acquirers, issuers, and other stakeholders to make the scheme more attractive and inclusive for the public. All invoices verified during the suspension period will be eligible for the next prize draw, the FBR said.

The FBR had launched the scheme in 2022, on the direction of former prime minister Imran Khan, to promote tax compliance and documentation of the economy. The scheme involved conducting monthly computerized ballots and distributing cash prizes among 10,000 lucky winners. The FBR had conducted 10 such ballots before suspending the scheme in October 2022, during the PDM government’s tenure.
The FBR had also enforced the installation of debit and credit card machines at all tier-I retail outlets, which include large departmental stores, shopping malls, and chain stores. The FBR had sealed dozens of business premises for non-compliance, but later de-sealed them after the retailers agreed to follow the FBR’s directions.
