PML-N, MQM talks on govt formation remain inconclusive

LAHORE: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have failed to reach an agreement on the formation of a coalition government in centre.

Both the parties have decided to continue discussions regarding the government formation, sources said.

The MQM-P delegation met with PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif in Model Town, Lahore.

The MQM-Pakistan delegation were headed by Dr Farooq Sattar, Mustafa Kamal and Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, while Ayyaz Sadiq and Rana Tanveer assisted Shehbaz Sharif from the PML-N side.

According to reliable sources, both parties agreed to maintain communication for ongoing discussions on government formation.

Following the meeting, the MQM-P delegation left Model Town without talking to the media.

Sources claimed that the MQM-P has expressed strong reservations regarding negotiations with the PML-N concerning government formation.

According to the sources, the MQM delegation expressed strong reservations, stating that they have not yet received any commitment in terms of power-sharing.

According to sources, during the meeting with Shehbaz Sharif, the MQM-P delegation expressed dissatisfaction with the meeting held with the PML-N coordination committee.

The MQM delegation made it clear it was difficult to move forward under the prevailing circumstances.

Sources further stated that during the negotiations, the PML-N leadership assured them that their demands would be met.

According to the sources, following successful negotiations with the Pakistan People’s Party, the behaviour of the PML-N has suddenly changed.
