ISLAMABAD: On the third day of Eidul Fitr, a surge of citizens headed to recreational areas in Islamabad, with many making their way to Daman-e-Koh. The authorities responded by temporarily closing access to Daman-e-Koh due to the overwhelming influx of visitors.
Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Meman confirmed the closure, citing the rise in tourist numbers.
“As the crowd subsides, citizens will be permitted entry,” Meman stated.
Large contingents from the twin cities are journeying to recreational destinations within the Islamabad Capital Territory during Eidul Fitr. Tourist numbers have swelled significantly.
Over the first two days, more than 174,000 tourists visited various hilly retreats, including those in Murree and Galiyat.
The Galiyat Tourism Authority reported that upwards of 91,000 tourists explored the mountainous regions. Malam Jabba alone welcomed over 41,000 visitors during this period, while Naran, Kaghan, and Kalam also experienced a substantial influx.
Tourism Adviser Zahid Chanzeb highlighted the increase in tourist arrivals compared to the previous year, noting that tourists are benefiting from information provided through the Tourism Help Line.
Additionally, tourism police are actively patrolling tourist sites. On the second day of Eidul Fitr, a significant number of tourists entered Murree, with approximately 7,000 vehicles streaming into the picturesque town. Chief Traffic Officer Rawalpindi, Timur Khan, reported smooth traffic flow along all Murree highways, despite the challenges posed by narrow roads.
