Conference aimed at combating food scarcity held today: ISPR


Green Pakistan Initiative (GPI) Conference was held today in which Federal Minister for Planning and Development Mr. Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for National Food Security Mr Rana Tanveer Hussain and General Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), Chief of Army Staff (COAS) graced the occasion.

RAWALPINDI: A conference on combating food scarcity and increasing agriculture yield in Pakistan was held on Friday, the military’s media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) revealed in an announcement.

The Green Pakistan Initiative (GPI) conference was attended by both civilian and military leadership, with the Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, and the Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain in attendance.

In the statement, the ISPR revealed that Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir also attended the event.

The ISPR stated that the conference concentrated on green initiatives to combat food scarcity in the country of 220 million people. The solutions also covered short term initiatives to address immediate pressing matters plaguing the country.

“The forum was briefed about the multi-faceted GPI initiatives and significant benchmarks achieved in a short span of time. The initiatives presented before the forum included, inter alia, establishment of model farms, water management schemes, technology innovations and investment partnerships aimed at ensuring food security and enhancing agricultural productivity in Pakistan”, the statement read.

The ministers praised the initiatives for their ingenuity and in addressing issues afflicting millions of people within Pakistan. The ministers were happy at fixing solutions plaguing the agriculture sector of the country, on which almost 70 per cent of the population is reliant as livelihood.

“The Federal Ministers, while concluding the session lauded this transformative initiative and underscored that agriculture is the lifeline of Pakistan. They hoped that GPI would introduce contemporary best practices in Pakistan’s agriculture sector.”

Meanwhile, the army chief talked about the blessings the Creator has given Pakistan.

“While addressing the conference, COAS remarked that ‘Pakistan is a blessed land with an industrious and resilient nation which needs to come together for national development’.”

The announcement ended with the army chief promising that the military will play its part in bettering the country’s economy.

“COAS assured that ‘Pakistan Army will continue to provide all possible support for the economic development of Pakistan and underscored that the Army’s efforts would contribute towards comprehensive national security and collective good of the nation’.”
