Putin says Russia backs Kamala Harris, cites her ‘infectious’ laugh

VLADIVOSTOK: Russia previously wanted Joe Biden to win the US presidential election but now it supports Kamala Harris over Donald Trump, President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday (September 5) while speaking in a plenary session.

Putin had said earlier this year, before Biden withdrew from the race, that he preferred him over Trump because Biden was a more predictable “old school” politician.

Putin said, “As for the favourites, there is no need to define that, it’s a choice by the people of America in the end. I’ve said that our so to say favourite was the acting President, Mr. Biden.”

“He’s been taken out the race, but he advised all his supporters to support Mrs. Harris. That’s what we’ll do, we’ll support her as well, that’s the first thing. Secondly, her laugh is so expressive and infections, that means that she’s doing well.”

He added, “Trump has imposed so many restrictions and sanctions against Russia, no President before him imposed so many. If Harris is doing so well, may she’ll refrain from such actions. In the end, it’s a choice for the people of America to make, we’ll respect that choice.”
