The Pakistani government, along with the Green Climate Fund, USAID, The Coca-Cola Foundation, and WWF, is set to launch the ‘Recharge Pakistan’ project on September 10, 2024. This ambitious initiative aims to improve the resilience of vulnerable communities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, and Balochistan provinces, which have been severely affected by climate change.
The $77.8 million project will be implemented by relevant provincial departments and WWF-Pakistan at select sites across the three provinces. The goal is to address the country’s pressing environmental challenges, including super floods, heavy rains, heatwaves, and droughts. The project will demonstrate the effectiveness of Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) and green infrastructure as innovative solutions to complement traditional grey infrastructure.
With a collective grant of $77.8 million, ‘Recharge Pakistan’ is the largest investment of its kind at the national level. The project is expected to directly benefit over 680,000 people and indirectly support more than seven million people across the project sites in Pakistan. The launch event is scheduled to take place on September 10, 2024, and will feature senior representatives from the Government of Pakistan, the Green Climate Fund, USAID, The Coca-Cola Foundation, WWF-US, WWF-Pakistan, and WWF-International.
