ISLAMABAD: Onion shortage is likely to hit the country due to high handedness of the custom authorities at check posts at the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
Traders at Chaman have claimed that despite paying all taxes and duties to customs authorities they are facing difficulties in importing onions and grapes.

Traders alleged that customs personnel deputed at Garang Check Post and Shela Bagh Check-Post are frequently intercepting trucks loaded with onions and grapes and forcing them to pay Rs5,000 for clearance of vehicles.
If such a situation continues, a shortage of onion is imminent which in turn will also give rise to a price hike of these commodities.
Traders have appealed to concerned authorities to take notice of the situation on priority basis and said that the government’s strict action will pave the way for a smooth supply of onions.
