Aleem Dar set to end illustrious career

Aleem Dar

FAISALABAD: Former Pakistani player and current umpire, Aleem Dar is set to retire following the conclusion of the Champions One Day Cup 2024.

The announcement was made by commentator Tariq Saeed during a Champions One Day Cup match.

The Pakistani umpire is renowned for his impartiality and decision-making abilities in high pressure situations. He holds the world record for officiating 448 international matches in a career spanning two decades. Dar was inducted into the ICC Elite Panel of Umpires in 2004.

Dar, who continued to officiate matches within Pakistan after taking his leave from international umpiring in March of last year, is shifting his attention to focus solely on aiding the underprivileged through his thalassemia hospital.

The former Pakistani cricketer founded the Aleem Dar Foundation, a non-profit organisation which provides free ambulance services, education for the labour class and training for jobs, as well as a blood bank and transfusions for Thalassemia patients.

Thalassemia is an inherited blood disorder that affects the production of either alpha or beta globin chains, which leads to inadequate or abnormal red blood cells. This results in various symptoms and complications. Sever forms of the disorder require lifelong blood transfusions.
