The decision follows a significant decline in student interest in commerce, with enrolment in each college dropping below 100 students.
Officials revealed that the government is currently spending Rs 300,000 per commerce student, prompting the shift towards IT education. The conversion is expected to enhance educational relevance and prepare students for the growing demands of the global IT industry.
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat confirmed that e-libraries will be established in Lahore’s IT colleges as part of the initiative. He emphasised that the project aims to position Punjab competitively in the international IT sector.
