Islamabad sealed off at 24 points ahead of PTI protest

Islamabad sealed

ISLAMABAD: Authorities have sealed off Islamabad at 24 key points with containers and barricades on Saturday, causing severe disruption to daily life in the federal capital. While Metro bus service between the twin cities remain suspended.

The road closures come as part of strict security measures ahead of planned Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf (PTI) protest on November 24 (Sunday).

Key entry routes into Islamabad including Rawat T-Chowk, Iran Avenue, Chungi No. 26, Khanna Pul, Faizabad, Murree Road, Expressway, Ninth Avenue, and Jinnah Avenue have been blocked by containers. Containers have also been placed at D-Chowk, Serena Chowk, and Marriott Chowk to restrict movement.

The measures have resulted in significant challenges for commuters, with many stranded in traffic or forced to take lengthy detours.

Public transport remains unavailable, further compounding the woes of daily wage workers and office-goers.

METRO BUS SERVICE SUSPENDED

The Metro Bus service between IJP Road and Pakistan Secretariat has been suspended for two days, leaving residents with limited options for travel.

While the service in Rawalpindi from Saddar Station to Faizabad will operate today, it will remain completely suspended tomorrow in both cities.

SECURITY MEASURES AMID DIPLOMATIC VISITS

The closures coincide with the arrival of President of Belarus on Monday, prompting heightened security in the capital.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, during a visit to Police Lines, emphasized the importance of maintaining order. “We must secure Islamabad at all costs,” he said, instructing police to arrest anyone disturbing peace.

Naqvi further directed police personnel to wear helmets and protective gear while performing their duties. “This time, no one will be allowed to disrupt law and order,” he affirmed, ensuring strict measures to protect citizens.
