Islamabad: Army reportedly deployed under article 245


Pakistan army takes control of D-chowk

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistani army has been reportedly deployed in Islamabad under article 245, following an alleged spike in violence during the ongoing protest by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Article 245 allows for military assistance in maintaining public order amid rising tensions.

Security personnel issued directives aimed at addressing what they claim as ‘anarchy’ and have instructed forces to confront people deemed ‘miscreants’ with a “firm approach”.

According to sources, explicit orders have been given to use lethal force against those identified as ‘anarchists’, if necessary.

The ongoing protest by PTI supporters demanding the release of PTI founder, Imran Khan. The protests have so far seen deadly clashes with the law enforcement.

Recent clashes led to injuries among both, protestors and security personnel, raising alarm in several quarters.

In response, security personnel indicated that ‘comprehensive’ measures were being implemented to manage the situation and counter any elements perceived as engaging in violence.

The deployment of military forces and issuance of stringent orders comes amidst the deployment of over 20,000 police officers, rangers and even Frontier Corps (FC).
