DUBAI: The UAE’s first government-owned electric vehicle (EV) charging network, UAEV, has announced the introduction of new charging tariffs set to take effect in January 2025. These tariffs, revealed by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure earlier this year, represent a significant advancement toward enhancing the network’s scalability and sustainability while ensuring equitable access to EV infrastructure.
Since the announcement of the tariffs in May, EV users have enjoyed complimentary charging services. This shift to a tariff-based model emphasizes UAEV’s commitment to operational excellence and aligns with the UAE’s vision for a sustainable future. The standardized pricing structure includes AED 1.2 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) plus VAT for DC fast chargers and AED 0.70 per kWh plus VAT for AC chargers, ensuring transparent and consistent costs for EV drivers nationwide.
In addition to the new pricing framework, UAEV is set to introduce a range of innovative solutions to improve the EV charging experience. A user-friendly mobile application will feature essential tools, allowing users to locate nearby charging stations, receive live status updates, and access streamlined payment options. This app aims to facilitate navigation through the expanding EV charging network, empowering users on their journeys.
H. E. Eng. Sharif Al Olama, Chairman of UAEV, emphasized that this initiative marks a transformative step in the UAE’s journey towards sustainable transportation. By expanding the network and aligning with the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategy, UAEV is promoting a cleaner, greener future for all.
By 2030, the network plans to incorporate 1,000 charging stations strategically located in urban areas, along highways, and at transit hubs throughout the UAE. These stations will ensure seamless access for both inter-city and intra-city EV drivers, boosting confidence in the transition to electric mobility.
The network will also prioritize high-speed charging, real-time monitoring, and station reliability, ensuring that drivers can rely on UAEV for all their charging requirements.
