LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested three individuals accused of editing and sharing doctored photos of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
According to FIA sources, 20 social media accounts involved in circulating the fake images have been identified. While three suspects are in custody, the agency is conducting raids to apprehend others.
These doctored visuals began spreading online after the UAE President’s visit to Pakistan, during which he was welcomed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and greeted by Maryam Nawaz.
A joint investigation team, led by Additional Director Sarfaraz Chaudhry and including Deputy Directors from Lahore, Multan, and Faisalabad, has been formed to expand the inquiry.
The FIA’s Cybercrime Wing launched the investigation after a request from the Punjab government.

The manipulated images, widely shared on social media, falsely depicted Maryam Nawaz alongside the UAE president.
The circulated images were highly criticised by social media users who were of the view that how can a Muslim CM shake hands with a male dignitary? While some had questioned the diplomatic norms for such an action.
A fake letter, falsely attributed to the UAE Embassy, also emerged on social media. The fabricated document allegedly urged the Pakistani government to address propaganda linking the UAE President to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
The agency has vowed to take strict legal action against those responsible. Inquiries are underway across multiple cities, including Lahore, and individuals found guilty of sharing or uploading the content will face legal consequences.
