Pakistan receives its first mpox case for 2025

PESHAWAR: A passenger arriving from Dubai has been diagnosed with mpox, according to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) health department.
According to health advisor KP, Ihtesham Ali a public health team was immediately dispatched to Peshawar Airport, and the patient was shifted to the Police Services Hospital.
“Samples of the patient have been sent to the Public Health Reference Laboratory from the Police Hospital,” Ali said.
He added that the Peshawar laboratory has also confirmed mpox in the 35-year-old individual, while the Peshawar Airport Manager has been asked to provide details of passengers who were near the patient.
“Upon receiving the passenger information, the relevant DHOs will be informed for contact tracing,” he explained.
According to the health department, a total of 10 mpox cases have been reported in KP so far, with two being in 2023, seven in 2024 and first in 2025.
