Intraday trade: PKR gains 7 paisa against USD


US dollar in Pakistani rupee

KARACHI: The Pakistani rupee (PKR) on Wednesday appreciated by seven paisa against the US dollar (USD) during initial trading hours.

Currency exchange companies quoted the greenback at Rs279.60 against the local currency.

So far in the ongoing fiscal year, the PKR has fallen by Rs1.33 or 0.48 per cent against the USD. Since the start of the calendar year 2025, it has weakened by Rs1.12 or 0.40 per cent.

Furthermore, the local unit has reached a 52-week low, marking its weakest level in the past year. The PKR has depreciated by 0.77 per cent from its strongest level of Rs277.52 per USD, recorded on 4 October 2024.

Previous close and performance against other currencies

In Tuesday’s interbank session, the PKR marginally decreased by 0.90 paisa against the USD, closing at Rs279.67 compared to Monday’s close.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at Rs279.50 for buying and Rs281.50 for selling on Tuesday.

Against other foreign currencies, the PKR exhibited mixed performance:

Saudi Riyal in PKR: Against the Saudi Riyal, it fell by 0.63 paisa or 0.01 per cent, closing at Rs74.58.

British Pound in PKR: Against the British Pound, the PKR appreciated by 46.40 paisa or 0.13 per cent, closing at Rs353.06 from Rs353.52.

Chinese Yuan in PKR: Against the Chinese Yuan, the PKR gained 9.25 paisa or 0.24 per cent, settling at Rs38.50 from Rs38.59.

UAE Dirham in PKR: Against the UAE Dirham, it fell by 0.66 paisa or 0.01 per cent to close at Rs76.15.

Euro in PKR: Against the Euro, the PKR rose by 29.82 paisa or 0.10 per cent, closing at Rs292.87 from Rs293.17.

Japanese Yen in PKR: Against the Japanese Yen, the PKR strengthened by 0.34 paisa or 0.18 per cent, ending the session at Rs1.8684 versus Rs1.8718 the day before.

Swiss Franc in PKR: The PKR depreciated by 7.96 paisa or 0.03 per cent against the Swiss Franc, closing at Rs311.84.
