Intraday update: PKR shows slight improvement against USD

KARACHI: The Pakistani rupee (PKR) made a modest gain against the US dollar (USD) in early trading on Friday, appreciating by 0.04 per cent in the interbank market.
By 10 AM, the rupee was valued at Rs280.12 against the greenback, showing an 11-paisa increase. Despite this slight gain, the PKR has seen an overall depreciation of Rs1.88, or 0.67 per cent, against the USD during the current fiscal year. Since the start of 2025, the currency has dropped by Rs1.68, or 0.60 per cent.
On Thursday, the rupee slipped slightly, losing 1.77 paisa or 0.01 per cent, closing at Rs280.23 per USD compared to the previous close of Rs280.21. During that session, the currency fluctuated between a high bid of Rs280.25 and a low ask of Rs280.20.
In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at Rs280.50 for buying and Rs282.10 for selling.
Meanwhile, the rupee saw mixed performance against other currencies. It declined by 0.27 paisa against the Saudi Riyal, closing at Rs74.71, and weakened by 0.27 paisa against the UAE Dirham, ending at Rs76.29. Against the Swiss franc, the rupee fell by 3.84 paisa to settle at Rs319.44.
However, the PKR recorded a slight improvement against the Chinese Yuan, gaining 0.64 paisa to close at Rs38.71. It also gained 33.10 paisa against the Euro, closing at Rs304.88, and saw a 0.11 per cent increase.
Conversely, the rupee weakened against the Japanese Yen, falling by 0.85 paisa to close at Rs1.8860. The British Pound also saw a slight gain against the rupee, as the local currency depreciated by 7.91 paisa, ending the session at Rs363.51.
