ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a telephonic conversation with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bi Al Saud and briefed him on the decisions taken by Pakistan’s National Security Committee in light of India’s unilateral actions.
According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office, the foreign ministers of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia expressed satisfaction over the current state of bilateral relations and discussed the evolving regional situation during the call.
Dar apprised Prince Faisal of the National Security Committee’s stance in response to India’s recent unilateral measures.
Rejecting India’s baseless allegations, Dar warned that such steps could further escalate tensions in the region.
As per the Foreign Office spokesperson, Dar emphasised that any act of aggression would be met with a strong and befitting response.
Both leaders agreed to maintain consultation and communication amid the changing regional dynamics.
Earlier, the Senate under the chair of Chairman Yusuf Raza Gilani unanimously approved a resolution against India’s recent allegations and unilateral measures, as Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar presented the condemnation.
Earlier in the day, troops from Pakistan and India exchanged fire overnight across the line of control (LoC) in disputed Kashmir, officials have said, after the UN urged the nuclear-armed rivals to show “maximum restraint” after Tuesday’s massacre of Indian tourists by terrorists.
Relations have plunged to their lowest level in years, with India accusing Pakistan of supporting “cross-border terrorism” after gunmen carried out the worst attack on civilians in contested Muslim-majority Kashmir for a quarter of a century.
