PM Shehbaz meets Saudi foreign minister amid regional tensions


ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has met Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel al-Jubeir, with the two sides discussing the current security situation in the region, including rising tensions between Pakistan and India.

Saudi Foreign Minister arrived in Islamabad today on an official visit amid rising tensions between Pakistan and India.

Upon his arrival at Nur Khan Airbase, Saudi Ambassador to Pakistan and high officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received the distinguished guest.

Later, the Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs arrived at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs where Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar received him.

During the meeting, both sides also reviewed matters of mutual interest, with a focus on strengthening bilateral ties.

Sources said the discussions touched upon recent developments along the Line of Control and regional peace efforts.

A day earlier, the Saudi minister was in New Delhi for talks.

Global militaries to study India-Pakistan fighter jet battle

The visit comes as part of global efforts to defuse tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.

Earlier this week, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also visited Pakistan.

He met with President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and other senior officials during his stay.
