ISLAMABAD: The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has initiated suo moto action against private schools, following complaints about the conditional sale of notebooks, workbooks, and uniforms bearing school logos.

The commission has issued show-cause notices to 17 major private school systems nationwide.

According to an inquiry report, many private schools have entered into secret agreements with specific vendors, forcing students and parents to buy overpriced products. Copies and notebooks with school logos were found to be up to 280 per cent more expensive than the standard market price.

Students and parents are effectively “trapped consumers” after admission, with limited options to purchase from cheaper alternatives, the report said.

The report also highlighted that the compulsory purchase of such products is often imposed under the guise of school guidelines. With 50 per cent of the country’s students enrolled in private schools, millions of students and parents are affected by these policies. Additionally, thousands of small businesses selling stationery and uniforms have suffered due to the schools’ exclusive arrangements with vendors.

Parents are reportedly left with little choice, as changing schools involves significant costs and travel difficulties. The inquiry found that school managements are misusing their market power, making students and parents accept all school-imposed decisions.

The CCP has directed the schools to submit written responses within 14 days. If found guilty of violating the Competition Act, private schools could face fines of up to Rs 75 million.

WANA: Security sources have confirmed that all students, teachers and other staff trapped inside the Wana Cadet College were safely rescued.

Security officials said that the operation was still ongoing against the three militants hiding inside a block of the college building.

The operation was carried out against three militants holed up inside the college building. Around 650 people, including 525 cadets, were present on campus when the attack took place on November 10.

Sources noted that the morale of all students and teachers remained high despite the attack.

Initially, security forces had evacuated at least 115 people, mostly students during the the clearance operation.

Earlier on 10 November, militants allegedly backed by Afghanistan and India rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the college’s main gate. The blast destroyed the gate and damaged nearby buildings. Army personnel responded swiftly, killing two attackers on the spot.

Officials said that the operation was carried out with cautious for the safety of the students and other staff trapped inside the building. The security forces dis not say anything about the three militants who had holed up inside a building. Security forces said that the operation will continue until the last militant is neutralised.

Security forces had cordoned off the area and restricted the three militants to a single building inside the campus before launching the rescue operation. CCTV footage from the college showed the suicide vehicle striking the main gate and damaging adjacent structures.

WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s Minister of State for Crypto and Blockchain, and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Crypto, Bilal Bin Saqib met with over a dozen key US government officials and lawmakers to strengthen cooperation in the areas of digital assets, blockchain regulation, and financial innovation.

Saqib met with Senator Cynthia Lummis, co-author of the Lummis-Gillibrand Responsible Financial Innovation Act and co-sponsor of the BITCOIN Act, which seeks to designate Bitcoin as a strategic reserve asset. Senator Lummis has been a leading advocate for thoughtful and comprehensive crypto legislation in the US.

He also met with Senator Bill Hagerty, a member of the Senate Banking Committee and supporter of a pro-innovation regulatory environment, and with Senator Rick Scott, who has consistently emphasized economic security and financial stability. Additionally, he also met with Senator Tim Sheehy and Senator Jim Justice, the latter also a co-sponsor of the BITCOIN Act and a strong supporter of blockchain applications in government and infrastructure.

Meetings also included Senator Ted Cruz, Congressman Troy Downing, a member of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Digital Assets, Congressman Ryan Zinke, Congressman Rick McCormick, and Congressman Derrick Van Orden – all of whom are actively engaged in shaping policy frameworks related to emerging technologies.

Jill Kelley, founder of blockchain identity platform EdentifID, participated in discussions alongside Congressman McCormick, bringing perspectives from the private tech sector. He also met with White House Associate Counsel Kevin Cline and Associate Counsel Ugonna Eze of the White House Counsel’s Office.

“We came to learn, to listen, and to contribute,” said Minister Bilal. “Pakistan is actively studying how global leaders are approaching regulation, innovation, and financial inclusion – not to copy, but to adapt the best ideas for our own unique landscape.”

The visit also served to share Pakistan’s own initiatives — including the recent announcement of its Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, efforts to build a virtual asset regulatory framework, and the use of stablecoins to improve remittances and expand financial access. The exchanges highlighted the need for closer global coordination and the role emerging markets like Pakistan can play in shaping the next chapter of the digital economy.

“To sit at the table with those writing the future of finance is a responsibility and a signal: Pakistan is not waiting to catch up – we are here to lead,” said Minister Bilal. “From Capitol Hill to the White House, I shared a new face of Pakistan – one driven by its youth, powered by innovation, and ready to build global alliances for digital progress.”

With one of the world’s youngest populations, a thriving freelance economy, and over $36 billion in annual remittances, Pakistan is uniquely positioned to become a testbed for responsible innovation, grounded in transparency, accessibility, and long-term impact.

As per the details, 11 youths were martyred and 78 were injured in the defense of the motherland. Moreover, 40 civilians were martyred due to Indian provocation during May 6 and 7, ISPR said.

Seven women and 15 children are among those martyred due to Indian provocation, while 121 civilians including 10 women and 27 children were injured during the clashes.

ISLAMABAD: The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has said that the Pakistan Armed Forces conducted “Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos” on 10 May 2025, as part of the military conflict “Marka-e-Haq”, in response to the Indian military’s brazen attacks that began on the night of 6–7 May 2025.

“These attacks resulted in the loss of innocent civilian lives, including women, children, and the elderly. Pakistan had vowed justice and retribution for the reprehensible aggression and brutal killings of its citizens. Alhamdulillah, the Pakistan Armed Forces have fulfilled the promise made to the nation,” it said in a press release issued on Monday.

The ISPR said: “The Armed Forces thank Almighty Allah for His infinite blessings, mercy, support, and divine help. Allah has ordained believers to stand firm in the face of injustice. We bow our heads in humility, grateful for the strength granted to translate our resolve into decisive battlefield actions. Our hearts and sympathies are with the families of the Shuhada who sacrificed their lives for the nation. We pray for the swift recovery of our injured countrymen.”

It said: “We extend heartfelt gratitude to every officer, soldier, airman, and sailor of the Pakistan Armed Forces whose courage, professionalism, and sacrifice made this success on the battlefield possible. The Armed Forces express deep appreciation to the brave Pakistani nation, whose unwavering moral strength, resilience, and, above all, wholehearted prayers and support remained with us throughout these trying times. This national unity was the most potent force multiplier for our Armed Forces.”

The ISPR said, “We are especially indebted to the youth of Pakistan, who stood as frontline cyber and information warriors for the country.”

It thanked the vibrant media of Pakistan, which stood firm like Bunyan-um-Marsoos — a steel wall — against Indian disinformation and reckless war-mongering.

“We extend our appreciation to the diplomatic corps for representing Pakistan’s case at international forums with clarity and conviction. We thank our scientists and engineers for developing indigenous and specialized technologies that played a critical role in the success of Operation “Bunyan-um-Marsoos.”

The Armed Forces are extremely grateful to the leadership of all political parties, without distinction, for their unified resolve in support of national defence, the ISPR said.

“We especially acknowledge the inspiring leadership of the prime minister and the cabinet ministers for their strategic, destiny-shaping decisions that steered the country through this critical period,” he said.

It said that Pakistan’s response was a textbook demonstration of integrated tri-services jointness—enabled by real-time situational awareness, network-centric warfare capabilities, and seamless multi-domain operations. This synergy across air, land, sea, and cyber domains ensured precision engagement, overwhelming firepower, and rapid operational tempo. All platforms functioned in coordination, delivering decisive effects at carefully selected targets.

“Using precision-guided Fatah-series missiles (F1 and F2), advanced munitions of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF), long-range loitering drones, and high-accuracy artillery, 26 military targets were struck. These included facilities that had targeted Pakistani civilians and entities responsible for fomenting terrorism within Pakistan, both in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and mainland India,” the ISPR said.

The targets included air force and aviation bases at Suratgarh, Sirsa, Bhuj, Naliya, Adampur, Bhatinda, Barnala, Halwara, Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Udhampur, Mamun, Ambala, and Pathankot—all of which sustained significant damage, it said.

BrahMos missile storage facilities at Beas and Nagrota—previously used to launch missiles that killed Pakistani civilians—were also destroyed, the ISPR said.

It said that S-400 air defence systems at Adampur and Bhuj were successfully targeted and neutralised by the PAF.

“Military logistics and support installations aiding operations against Pakistani civilians—such as the Field Supply Depot in Uri and the Radar Station in Poonch—were also destroyed. Military Command Headquarters, including 10 Brigade and 80 Brigade at KG Top and Naushera, which were involved in planning and executing the killing of civilians, particularly children, were eliminated.”

The ISPR said that facilities that harboured, trained, and equipped proxy operatives responsible for terrorist attacks inside Pakistan were specifically identified and destroyed. These included intelligence units and their forward field elements at Rajauri and Naushera.

Across the Line of Control, military targets—headquarters, logistics bases, artillery positions, and posts responsible for civilian casualties in Azad Jammu and Kashmir—were relentlessly engaged and heavily damaged until they raised white flags requesting restraint.

India used drones to violate Pakistani airspace and intimidate civilians. In response, dozens of armed Pakistani drones hovered over major Indian cities and strategic facilities—including New Delhi—extending from IIOJK to Gujarat, showcasing Pakistan’s long-range unmanned strike capability and exposing the vulnerability of such tactics, it said

Pakistan also carried out comprehensive and effective cyber operations, temporarily degrading critical systems and infrastructure supporting Indian military operations, the press release said.

The Pakistan Armed Forces possess a sophisticated suite of niche military technologies. Only a limited portion was employed in this conflict, and that too with calculated restraint.

Despite India’s relentless provocations, the ISPR said Pakistan’s military response remained precise, proportionate, and remarkably restrained. Efforts were made to avoid civilian casualties, focusing solely on those entities and installations directly involved in orchestrating the attacks against Pakistani civilians or supporting terrorism inside the country, it said.

Pakistan also experienced an abnormal spike in Indian-sponsored terrorism across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan while its forces were engaged on the eastern front. This further confirmed India’s direct role in fueling terrorism within Pakistan. Their proxies were fully operationalised to distract and divide our response.

The ISPR said even so, the resilient Pakistan Armed Forces conducted effective counter-terrorism operations in the western region simultaneously with Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos, without any pause.

“Marka-e-Haq stands as a testament to the synergy between all elements of national power—backed by the overwhelming support of the Pakistani public—in defending our sovereignty and territorial integrity. Let there be no doubt: whenever Pakistan’s sovereignty is threatened and its territory violated, the response will be comprehensive and decisive. The Pakistan Armed Forces thank and salute the nation for its courage, resilience, and unflinching patriotism during this conflict,” the ISPR said.

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi on Monday chaired a meeting of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) to pick six judges for the Supreme Court, as lawyers in Islamabad staged a protest demonstration demanding the postponement of the moot till the adjudication of pleas challenging the 26th Constitutional Amendment, earlier approved by the president following its approval by Parliament.

An official communique of the JCP meeting was issued.

The legal fraternity took to the streets in the capital in opposition to the appointment of judges from the Lahore High Court (LHC), the Peshawar High Court (PHC), and the Sindh High Court (SHC) to the apex court, arguing that senior judges from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) were being overlooked, and a decision on the identical pleas challenging the 26th Constitutional Amendment was yet to be made.

Despite the lawyers' protest, the JCP approved the appointment of judges to the Supreme Court.

According to the communique, IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq, SHC Chief Justice Shafi Siddiqui, BHC Chief Justice Hashim Kakar and PHC Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim have been elevated to the Supreme Court.

TIRA VALLEY: A terrorist named Abdul Kabir has reportedly committed suicide in the Tira Valley due to sexual violence inflicted by fellow Khawarijis, sources revealed.

Reports show that the Khawarij, known for their extremist activities, have been implicated in severe human rights abuses, including the exploitation of their own members. Sources indicate that even terrorists themselves, individuals aligned with the Khawariji movement, are not spared from their inhumane and brutal behaviour.

Abdul Kabir endured severe abuse before taking his life, sources claim. His father and uncle were also allegedly kidnapped by foreign elements linked to the Khawarij, reportedly as part of efforts to conceal their heinous crimes.

The Khawarij are accused of subjecting young recruits to sexual violence after coercing them into their organisation. Sources added that these acts are recorded on video to later blackmail victims into compliance.

Terrorism and human rights violations are being blatantly committed under the patronage of the Khawarij on Afghan soil. It is clear from their serious crimes against humanity and against their own members that they have no regard for humanity or any religious consciousness.

ISLAMABAD: The Chinese embassy in Pakistan on Friday held an award ceremony to recognize the outstanding contributions of 43 Pakistani staff members working on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong highlighted the significance of practical cooperation between the two countries, particularly in advancing CPEC. "We should focus on reality, trends, and prospects to strengthen our confidence in CPEC construction," he stated.

Ambassador Jiang outlined three key factors driving the collaboration:

He noted that the continued economic recovery of both countries has created new prospects and momentum for enhanced cooperation, especially under CPEC.

The ambassador emphasized the importance of the directives and consensus from the leadership of both nations, which serve as a roadmap and instill confidence in pursuing high-quality CPEC development.

He pointed to the tangible successes achieved in CPEC projects, which provide a robust base for creating an “upgraded version” of the corridor.

Also read: CPEC projects attracted $25.4 billion of direct investment: China

Jiang expressed readiness to work with Pakistan to finalize the CPEC blueprint, ensuring high-quality development, improved security measures, and a balance between quantitative and qualitative growth. He emphasized the importance of advancing major infrastructure projects alongside smaller-scale livelihood initiatives, expanding cooperation into emerging fields, and fostering closer ties under the “Belt and Road” initiative.

"In this journey, we are committed to providing a platform for every CPEC staff member to showcase their talents and achieve their aspirations," Jiang said.

The event also featured remarks from Ahsan Iqbal, Pakistan’s Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives; Chen Shuai, Deputy Director General of the Department of International Cooperation at China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC); and Zhou Bo, Executive Vice Chairman of the China Chamber of Commerce in Pakistan.

The ceremony underscored the collaborative spirit of the CPEC initiative, celebrating the vital role played by Pakistani professionals in building a closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future.

Pakistan was represented by Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP) Mansoor Usman Awan, who outlined the serious impacts of climate change on Pakistan’s population and economy.

“The 2022 floods submerged a third of the country, affecting 33 million people,” AGP Awan said during the proceedings, adding that the estimated cost of reconstruction due to the floods has exceeded $16 billion.

Mansoor Awan said that despite the fact that Pakistan’s share of global greenhouse gas emissions is less than 1 per cent, Pakistan is facing 15 times more losses than other countries due to the impacts of climate change.

He recommended Pakistan’s viewpoint that disputes over treaty obligations should be resolved through mechanisms established within those treaties. “The obligation to mitigate climate change is consistent with treaty obligations that are part of applicable law”.

The obligation to mitigate climate change applies to a variety of harms, such as greenhouse gas emissions, he added.

During his speech at the ICJ, the AGP said, “Many countries that are combating greenhouse gas emissions are parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer, the Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Emissions.
ISLAMABAD: UK Minister for the Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan, Hamish Falconer, announced a new £108 million climate finance programme for Pakistan aimed to encourage new climate technologies and private sector investment, benefitting both the planet and Pakistani businesses.

Recognising the global threat posed by climate change, this first-of-its-kind programme will be delivered in partnership with the International Finance Corporation (IFC). As the largest single country blended finance facility, it will invest in local businesses to help them develop the technologies and meet the significant investments needed to adapt to the threats Pakistan faces from climate change.

The UK and IFC will then reinvest any profits from projects back into the facility, financing even more climate solutions. The programme will leverage the £108m the UK puts in to mobilise 5-6 times that amount of investment from the private sector.

The launch event, held in Islamabad, was also attended by Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb, Minister of State for Finance Revenue and Power Ali Pervaiz Malik and Federal Minister for Water Resources Musadik Malik.

Addressing the launch Hamish Falconer said: “The UK and Pakistan have a long history of working together to tackle tomorrow’s threats today. That’s why we’re investing in the expertise needed and supporting local businesses, alongside the Government of Pakistan, to get ahead of the challenges that climate change poses to the Pakistani people and the world. “From my own time working as a diplomat in Pakistan to now returning as a Minister, it’s clear that the UK and Pakistan’s partnership continues to go from strength to strength and is essential in tackling shared global challenges.”

IFC Country Manager for Pakistan and Afghanistan, Zeeshan Sheikh, said: “This facility reflects IFC’s commitment to supporting Pakistan’s climate resilience and adaptation efforts. We are pleased to be partnering with the UK on an innovative facility that will help crowd-in much needed private investment. “As a leading global investor in climate finance, IFC aims to leverage its experience and catalyze private sector financing for climate-smart investments in Pakistan and build a sustainable climate finance ecosystem.”

The announcement follows the launch of the British High Commission, Pakistan supported “Cost of Inaction Report”, which highlights the estimated cost of inaction on climate change for Pakistan is over one trillion dollars over the next 25 years.

The announcement marks the conclusion of a two-day visit to Pakistan by Hamish Falconer, Minister for the Middle East.

ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff Gen Syed Asim Munir has warned that the “Fitna-tul-Khawarij” — a term used for the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan — has become a breeding ground for global terrorist networks and proxies.

Addressing the Margalla Dialogue 2024 in the federal capital, Gen Munir spoke on Pakistan’s pivotal role in fostering peace and stability.

The event was organised by the Islamabad Policy Research Institute (IPRI).

The army chief reflected on regional cooperation and global harmony amidst evolving global challenges.

He underscored the rapid dissemination of misinformation as one of the most significant contemporary challenges.

"The unchecked spread of false and misleading information is destabilising political and social structures worldwide,” he said adding that the influence of non-state actors has grown amid global transitions in technology, economy, and geopolitics.

Freedom Without Regulation Erodes Moral Values

Highlighting the dual impact of technology, the army chief acknowledged its role in facilitating communication while cautioning against its misuse.

“Without comprehensive regulations, the spread of disinformation and hate speech will continue to undermine societies,” he said.

Also read: Army chief reaffirms resolve to eradicate menace of terrorism

“Unregulated freedom of expression is eroding moral values and exacerbating divisions based on religion, sect, and ethnicity.”

Unwavering Commitment to Combating Terrorism

Gen Asim Munir reiterated Pakistan’s steadfast resolve to combat terrorism, describing it as a shared global challenge. He emphasized Pakistan’s expectations from Afghanistan’s interim government to ensure that Afghan soil is not used as a launchpad for terrorist activities.

"A robust border management regime has been implemented to secure our western frontiers," he said.

He also highlighted the role of the “Azm-e-Istahkam” campaign, a critical component of Pakistan’s National Action Plan, aimed at eradicating terrorism and extremism.

Concerns Over Hindutva and Regional Peace

Shifting focus to India, General Munir criticised the rise of Hindutva ideology, asserting that it threatens minorities even in Western countries like the US, the UK, and Canada. “India’s oppressive policies in occupied Jammu and Kashmir reflect its ideological continuity,” he said, calling for a resolution of the Kashmir dispute in line with UN resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

Pakistan’s Commitment to Palestine

Reaffirming solidarity with Palestinians, the Army Chief stated, “Pakistan has consistently supported the creation of an independent Palestinian state and called for ceasefires in Gaza and Lebanon.” He highlighted the humanitarian aid Pakistan has provided to the region.

Contributions to Global Peace

Gen Asim Munir emphasised Pakistan’s contributions to UN peacekeeping missions, noting that over 235,000 Pakistani personnel have served, with 181 sacrificing their lives. “We will not align with any global conflict but will continue to play a constructive role in maintaining peace,” he declared.

Youth and Resources: Pakistan’s Strengths

He expressed optimism about Pakistan’s future, citing the country’s youthful population — 63 per cent under the age of 30 — and its abundant natural resources. He highlighted Pakistan’s emerging role as a major player in agriculture, freelancing, and mineral production.

“Pakistan’s strategic location, connecting Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East, makes it integral to regional trade and economic activity,” he said pledging that Pakistan would persist in its efforts to promote regional and global stability.

The army chief reflected on regional cooperation and global harmony amidst evolving global challenges.

He underscored the rapid dissemination of misinformation as one of the most significant contemporary challenges.

“Pakistan’s strategic location, connecting Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East, makes it integral to regional trade and economic activity,” he said pledging that Pakistan would persist in its efforts to promote regional and global stability.

ISLAMABAD: Since formation in wake of the enactment of the 26th Constitutional Amendment, the Supreme Court’s six-member constitutional bench on Tuesday took up a decades-old pending case on environmental pollution and sought reports from all provinces on the measures taken to save environment and mitigate pollution.

"This case dates back to 1993," Justice Jamal Mandokhail remarked and added “Paperwork alone won't resolve this. We need tangible action."

Justice Mandokhail noted the severity of smog in Punjab, stating that visibility has become almost zero. "We have done little to protect the environment," he added.

Constituional bench head Justice Aminuddin Khan, underscored the urgent need to take measures to control pollution.

Addressing the Environmental Protection Agency’s Director General, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar questioned the role of environmental agencies stating "Is it the court's job to monitor your agency? If the court has to oversee environmental issues, what purpose do these institutions serve?" he observed.

Justice Aminuddin Khan said that bureaucratic efforts were insufficient and there was a nee to take concrete measures in this regard.

Justice Musarrat Hilali expressed concern over unregulated housing projects proliferating across the country.

Justice Mandokhail emphasized that pollution has become a nationwide issue, exacerbated by vehicle emissions and fuel adulteration. "Environmental pollution isn’t confined to Islamabad alone. Provincial collaboration is essential if we are to see results," he said.

Justice Mazhar raised concerns over the continued vacant position of the Climate Change Authority chairman noting that the authority continues to remain inactive without a chief. "Only with a chairperson in place can the authority function effectively,” he said.

The bench also addressed the growing issue of smog in Punjab. "We are witnessing the impact of environmental pollution firsthand," Justice Mandokhail remarked. "Visibility has deteriorated significantly in Punjab due to smog, and we have failed to prioritise environmental protection."

Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan criticized the depletion of green fields for new housing settlements, questioning why high-rise apartments are not build instead of large bungalows.

"What legacy are we leaving for future generations?" he asked, suggesting the promotion of a "flat culture" over sprawling six-kanal bungalows.

Justice Hilali pointed out the proliferation of poultry farms and marble factories along schools in Mansehra, and urged the field inspections instead of sitting in offices.

The bench directing the federal and provincial governments to submit comprehensive pollution control reports within three weeks adjourned the hearing until then at the request of the Additional Attorney General.

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Judicial Council examined 10 complaints filed against judges under Article 209 of the Constitution filed by different people and held that no substantial evidence had been adduced by the complainants. The SJC has disposed of (filed) those complaints, said a press release issued by the Supreme Court Public Relations Officer.

“A meeting of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) was held on Friday under the chair of Chief Justice of Pakistan/Chairman Supreme Judicial Council Justice Yahya Afridi. The meeting was attended by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Munib Akhtar, Justice Aamir Farooq, Chief Justice Islamabad High Court and Justice Muhammad Hashim Kakar, Chief Justice High Court of Balochistan,” it said.

“The Council took up for consideration various agenda items. The Council discussed in detail the issue of rule-making of the Council and establishment of its Secretariat.

“The Council authorised the chairman to hire the services of a competent individual with proven ability to work as secretary of the Council for a period of three months who would be tasked to assist the Council in conducting its meetings, oversee rule making exercise, and firm up infrastructure and human resource requirements of the Council's secretariat,” it said.

The Council also discussed the agenda items regarding amendments in the code of conduct of judges under Article 209(8) of the Constitution and letter of six judges of Islamabad High Court.

ISLAMABAD: The government's proposed constitutional package has sought amendments to over 20 clauses, notably Articles 51, 63, 175, and 187.

Among the key amendments is a proposal to increase the seats in the Balochistan Assembly, raising its seats from 65 to 81.

An amendment to Article 63 has been proposed which will allow dissident members to exercise their right to vote. Article 63 will specifically be amended to grant the voting right to dissident members. Article 63 deals with disqualifications for membership in the Parliament, including voting behaviour, dual nationality, and other misconduct. The proposed amendment will allow dissident members to vote without facing disqualification.

Additionally, under the proposed amendement, appeals on decisions made by the Constitutional Court will now be heard by the same court. Article 181 is also likely to be amended, which currently relates to the temporary appointment of high court judges to fill vacancies in the Supreme Court.

The tenure of the chief justice of Pakistan will not be extended under the proposed amendment. Under the proposed amendment, judges from the Islamabad High Court will be rotated and transferred to high courts in other provinces.

The amendment says that thief justice of Pakistan will be appointed from a panel of five senior judges of the Supreme Court.

A significant part of the proposed amendment is the establishment of a Constitutional Court, which will address constitutional issues.

This court will hear petitions related to Articles 184, 185, and 186. The chief justice of this court will be appointed by the government from among the sitting Supreme Court judges.

Furthermore, the amendment will create a judicial commission and a parliamentary committee responsible for appointing judges to both the Supreme Court and the high courts.

Article 175, which deals with the establishment and functioning of the judiciary, particularly the Supreme Court, high courts and Federal Shariat Court, has been proposed to be amended.

Article 181, which concerns the appointment of acting judges in the Supreme Court when a vacancy arises or a sitting judge is unable to perform their duties, is also proposed to be amended.

Also read: Crucial meetings underway at the parliament ahead of NA, Senate sessions

Article 184, which deals with the original jurisdiction of the Supreme Court, especially in cases involving the enforcement of fundamental rights, has been proposed to be amended.

Article 185, which deals with appeals to the Supreme Court against judgments of high courts, will also be amended.

Article 186, which relates to advisory jurisdiction, where the Supreme Court can provide an opinion on legal questions referred by the president, has been proposed to be amended.

Article 187, which gives the Supreme Court the power to issue orders for the enforcement of its judgments, decrees, or orders across the country, has been proposed to be amended.

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has submitted a review petition challenging the Supreme Court's decision regarding reserved seats. The petition urges the Supreme Court to reconsider its ruling from July 12.

The ECP argues in the petition that it has fulfilled its responsibilities according to the constitution and law. It asserts that the decision involving the 39 PTI members was implemented correctly and that no legal or judicial rulings were misinterpreted.

ECP also argues that it did not misinterpret any legal or judicial rulings and faithfully executed the court's decision, and that the Supreme Court should not interfere with Article 218 of the Constitution.

The ECP maintains that it has the constitutional right to seek a review of judicial decisions.
