Caretaker PM: Who is Anwarulhaq Kakar?

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif and opposition leader Raja Riaz have finally reached an agreement over appointing former senator Anwarul Haq Kakar as caretaker Prime Minister.

The announcement was made by Riaz during a press conference after his meeting with the PM.

A summary, in this regard, has been forwarded to President Arif Alvi for approval after Sharif’s signature.

Who is Anwarulhaq Kakar

Anwarulhaq Kakar is an ethnic Pashtun politician from Balochistan serving as Advisor to the Chief Minister Balochistan. 

A founding member of Balochistan Awami Party, he was the spokesperson for the Government of Balochistan from 2015 till 2018 when he was elected as a senator on an independent seat.

Reportedly, Kakar has been actively working on image building of the Pakistani state in the troubled province.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Sociology from the University of Balochistan and has attended the National Security Workshop at the National Defence University, Islamabad.

His name is nothing short of surprise for many. Until this morning, names like Ishaq Dar, Jalil Jillani and Sadiq Sanjrani were doing the rounds as potential candidates for the post.
