Indus River faces unprecedented dry spell

HYDERABAD: Despite unprecedented rain and floods, Indus River continues to face dry spell.

Concerns are growing as water flow in the Kotri Barrage upstream is declining at an alarming level. The situation has escalated to a deadly level, with the flow plummeting to a mere 10,235 cusecs, while downstream water discharge has come to a screeching halt.

Authorities at the control room of Kotri Barrage confirmed that the water’s release through the four vital canals connected to the barrage has been halted.

The receding Indus River water is set to affect the lives of countless people, particularly those living along Teal and its neighboring areas. The receding water is also taking a toll on marine life.

With the livelihood and well-being of the numerous people at stake, the dead water is ringing alarm bells for the authorities concerned.
