PHC verdict

PESHAWAR: The Divisional Bench of Peshawar High Court (PHC), led by Justice Ejaz Anwar and Justice Syed Arshad Ali, announced the verdict on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) intra-party election and election symbol case.

The court had earlier reserved the verdict after listening to the counsel of PTI and the apex election body.

The courtroom was abuzz with legal discourse as counsels presented their perspectives on the matter. The Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) stance on the validity of the intra-party elections and the allocation of the election symbol was scrutinised whereby the electoral body has declared the intra-party elections void.

PHC to resume hearing on PTI’s intra-party elections, symbol case

PTI’s legal team provided counterarguments terming ECP to be just a ‘record keeper’ of all things elections, without having the authority to assign or withdraw a party’s election symbol.

If the complainant goes to the civil court, the decision will not come until the next election, ECP’s counsel said.
