Threefold increase in gas prices expected

WEB DESK: The government is preparing to announce a significant gas price increase of up to 200 per cent, effective from October 1, according to sources familiar with the matter.

On Wednesday, insiders revealed that the proposal includes raising the fixed monthly charges for protected gas consumers from Rs10 per month to Rs400 per month.

Under the plan, domestic consumers may face a substantial 172 per cent increase in gas charges, while other consumers could see a proposed rise of 198.33 per cent.

According to Jang, the caretaker government aims to implement these tariff hikes as part of their strategy to tackle the circular debt and fulfill the commitments made to the International Monetary Fund.
