AGP detects uiregularities

ISLAMABAD: The Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) has detected financial irregularities worth Rs2 trillion in 15 federal departments and institutions.

The irregularities occurred in these departments in the fiscal year 2022-23.

According to the AGP report, the irregularities were found in the National Highway Authority, the Capital Development Authority, the Civil Aviation Authority, Public Works Department, Estate Offices, the Pakistan Housing Authority Foundation.

The report also revealed irregularities in the National Logistic Cell, the Federal Government Employees Housing Authority, the Higher Education Commission, the Special Project Cell, the Sindh Infrastructure Development Company Limited, GPA, the Federal Bureau of Revenue and the Naya Pakistan Housing and Development Authority.

The AGP report stated that 28 contractors were overpaid by more than Rs23.77 billion while Rs11.48 billion revenue was not collected in 17 cases.

Moreover, 35 cases involved the awarding of contracts worth Rs152 billion in violation of the rules.

In three cases, according to the report, payments worth Rs7.13 billion were not properly recorded in the measurement books.

Similarly, Rs13 billion were paid without the approval of the competent authority in 11 cases.

It said that these payments deviated from the project concept (PC-1) multiple times.

The AGP report has recommended strict action against those who violated the rules and made excessive payments.

The report also suggested collecting all dues and depositing them into the treasury or relevant government accounts.

The AGP report has also recommended to strictly comply with public procurement rules.
