Pakistan sees dramatic surge in car sales for April

WEB DESK: The latest data from the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) reveals a significant upswing in car sales across the nation for April 2024.
Compared to the same period last year, car sales surged by a remarkable 2.35 times, with 10,515 units sold, contrasting sharply with the 4,483 units recorded previously.
Furthermore, on a month-to-month basis, April’s sales indicate a 12.1 per cent increase compared to March 2024, where 9,379 cars were sold.
However, the cumulative sales for the first ten months of the fiscal year 2024, ending in April, totaled 79,593 units. While this figure reflects a substantial decrease of 31.0 per cent compared to the 115,381 units sold during the same period in the previous fiscal year.
Delving into the specifics, the data reveals that passenger car sales saw a staggering 3.1 times increase year-on-year, reaching 8,873 units compared to 2,844 units in April of the preceding year.
Moreover, the production of passenger cars soared to 6,805 units in May, marking an 82.0 per cent surge compared to the 3,740 units manufactured in the corresponding month last year.
Analyzing the breakdown of sales, the data highlights that the majority of passenger car purchases fell within the ‘Below 1000cc’ category, with 5,023 units sold in April 2024.
Notably, the Suzuki Alto emerged as the top-selling model in this category, with 4,786 units sold, closely followed by the Suzuki Bolan with 237 units.
Additionally, the ‘1300cc and Above’ category witnessed robust sales of 3,212 units during the review month.
Toyota (Corolla & Yaris) led the sales in this segment with 1,722 units, trailed by Honda Cars (Civic & City) with 956 units, Suzuki Swift with 328 units, and Hyundai Elantra with 111 units.
Moreover, the ‘1000 cc’ segment saw a total sale of 638 units in April 2024, with the Suzuki Cultus clinching the top spot with 320 units sold, followed closely by the Suzuki WagonR with 318 units.
