BEIJING: Chery Automobile has launched China’s first aluminum-based lightweight S5E pure electric platform. The platform won the “First Prize of China Automobile Industry Science and Technology Progress Award.”

According to China Economic Net, this move is Chery’s attempt to transform the field of new energy. It is also to take a larger share in the global automobile market.

As Chery’s “top-level achievement” in new energy, it has broken through the technical bottlenecks in terms of aluminum-based body structure design, molding, and connection.

The platform realises the decoupling of soft and hard layers from “physical architecture to electronic architecture”. In this way, it lays a foundation for safer, smarter, and more environmentally friendly pure electric products.

Backed by Chery’s 26 years of research and development, it includes technological breakthroughs and innovative materials and products. These are the world’s first aluminum-based body material system, the world’s first aluminum-based body integrated design technology, the original aluminum alloy plastic forming process, high-precision extrusion molding and low-heat welding process, advanced liquid forming process, etc.

These will help Chery accelerate the development of new energy products, improve product quality and technological leadership.

The platform showcases high space utilization, standard rear-wheel drive, diverse drive options, and expandable models. The integration of battery and body increases interior space by 5%, optimizing the car’s design with an axle length ratio of 0.58 to 0.61.

The platform adopts an aluminum-based process, replacing traditional methods. The new process reduces mold investment by 40% and increases material utilization by 50%, enhancing safety performance.

The design includes a multi-stage collapse feature in the front longitudinal beam, improving frontal collision energy absorption, and reducing side impact intrusion by 60%.

Chery’s technology is environmentally friendly, eliminating polluting coating processes. Energy consumption is reduced by 91.7%, carbon emissions by 63%, and VOC emissions by 99.8%.

As a prominent player in China’s independent automotive sector, Chery has driven the growth of the country’s new energy sector.
