Dewan Group to launches ambitious electric taxi project in Sindh

KARACHI: Dewan Group of Industries, a leading industrial conglomerate in Pakistan, has unveiled an ambitious plan to introduce 500 electric taxis in Sindh, with an estimated investment of Rs2.5 billion. This initiative aims to transform the province’s public transportation system and promote eco-friendly commuting options.
The announcement was made during a high-level meeting at the Sindh Investment Department, where Syed Qasim Naveed Qamar, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Investment and Public-Private Partnership, met with Dewan Group’s Chairman, Dewan Muhammad Yousuf Farooqui, who expressed the company’s commitment to addressing the public transport challenges in Sindh by providing environmentally sustainable solutions.
Qamar welcomed the initiative highlighting its significance in tackling transportation issues in the region. “This project aligns seamlessly with the Sindh government’s vision of fostering environmentally friendly transport systems. It will not only improve public mobility but also enhance technological advancements in the area,” he said.

Additionally, Qamar pointed out that this initiative would have a positive economic impact by creating job opportunities in the province. “The manufacturing and deployment of electric vehicles through this project will spur technological development, attract further investments, and open up new employment avenues for the people of Sindh.”
The Dewan Group’s project comes at a crucial time when Pakistan is facing rising pollution levels and urban mobility challenges. The introduction of electric taxis is viewed as a significant step towards sustainable transportation and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
The Sindh government has been actively promoting investments in green technologies, especially in the transportation sector, to combat climate change’s adverse impacts. Currently in the planning stage, the group aims to launch the first fleet of electric taxis in the coming months.
