PKR strengthens marginally against US dollar in interbank trade

KARACHI: The Pakistani rupee (PKR) showed a slight gain against the US dollar (USD) in early trading on Thursday, appreciating by 0.04 per cent in the interbank market.

In the morning session, the rupee was valued at Rs277.62, marking a small increase of Re0.10 against the US dollar.

Since the start of the current financial year, the rupee has strengthened by 62.1 paisa, reflecting a 0.22 per cent appreciation. In the ongoing calendar year, it has gained Rs4.14 or 1.49 per cent against the dollar.

On Wednesday, the PKR closed at Rs277.72, according to data from the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

Chinese Yuan: PKR gained 7.4 paisa, ending at Rs39.31 from Rs39.38.

Euro: PKR gained 77.81 paisa, closing at Rs304.42 compared to Rs305.2 the day before.

Saudi Riyal: The rupee strengthened by 2.91 paisa, reaching Rs73.97 from Rs73.94.

Japanese Yen: PKR rose by 1.13 paisa, closing at Rs1.8694 compared to Rs1.8807.

UAE Dirham: PKR improved by 1.37 paisa, closing at Rs75.60 from Rs75.61.

British Pound: The pound fell by 10.1 paisa, ending at Rs363.38 from the previous Rs363.48.

Swiss Franc: The rupee gained 96.61 paisa, closing at Rs324.16 versus Rs325.12 the day prior.

Globally, the US dollar remained near a two-month high against major currencies as traders anticipated that the Federal Reserve would maintain a cautious stance on future rate cuts, with an important inflation report due later in the day.
