Early trade: Pakistani rupee up by five paisa against US dollar

KARACHI: The Pakistani rupee (PKR) remained largely stable against the US dollar (USD), appreciating by 0.02 per cent during early trading hours in the interbank market on Tuesday.

By the start of the second trading day of the week, the PKR stood at Rs277.63, marking a 5-paisa gain against the greenback.

Globally, the US dollar eased slightly, though it remained close to recent highs ahead of significant US data releases later this week, which could influence the Federal Reserve’s policy decisions.

During the current fiscal year, the PKR has appreciated by 66 paisa, or 0.24 per cent, against the US dollar. For the calendar year, it has gained Rs4.18, or 1.51 per cent.

PKR’s previous closing and performance against other major currencies:

On Monday, the PKR fell by 3.89 paisa, or 0.01 per cent, against the USD, closing at Rs277.68. The rupee had ended the previous week (Friday, October 25) at Rs277.64 against the dollar.

In comparison to other major currencies here is how the PKR performed:

Against the Japanese yen, the PKR rose by 1.64 paisa, or 0.90 per cent, closing at Rs1.8105, up from Rs1.8269 a day earlier.

The PKR slipped by 1.07 paisa, or 0.01 per cent, against the UAE dirham, closing at Rs75.60.

Against the Swiss franc, the PKR strengthened by 36.12 paisa, or 0.11 per cent, to Rs320.00.

The PKR gained 14.39 paisa, or 0.04 per cent, against the British pound, closing at Rs360.06, compared to Rs360.20 the previous day.

It increased by 62.43 paisa, or 0.21 per cent, against the euro, ending at Rs299.97, up from Rs300.59.

The PKR weakened by 1.82 paisa, or 0.02 per cent, against the Saudi riyal, settling at Rs73.94.

Against the Chinese yuan, the PKR gained 2.85 paisa, or 0.07 per cent, closing at Rs38.95, compared to Rs38.98 on Friday.
