Pakistani rupee rises by 9 paisa against US dollar in early trade

KARACHI: The Pakistani rupee (PKR) showed a slight improvement against the US dollar (USD) in early trading on Monday, appreciating by 0.03 per cent.

As of the morning, the rupee stood at Rs277.52 per dollar, reflecting a small gain of 9 paisa.

Since the start of the current fiscal year, the PKR has strengthened by 72.83 paisa, or 0.26 per cent, against the USD. Over the course of this calendar year, it has increased by Rs4.25, or 1.53 per cent.

Last week, the rupee remained relatively stable in the inter-bank market. On Friday, October 18, the PKR appreciated by 17.94 paisa (0.06 per cent) to close at Rs277.61 per dollar, compared to Thursday’s close of Rs277.79.

In terms of other foreign currencies, the PKR strengthened by 5.56 paisa (0.08 per cent) against the Saudi Riyal, closing at Rs73.91. It also rose by 4.89 paisa (0.06 per cent) against the UAE Dirham to Rs75.58.

However, the rupee weakened by Rs1.43 (0.40 per cent) against the British Pound, settling at Rs362.27. It gained 61.45 paisa (0.19 per cent) against the Swiss Franc, closing at Rs320.40, and appreciated by 50 paisa (0.17 per cent) against the Euro, ending at Rs301.03.

Meanwhile, the PKR gained 0.56 paisa (0.30 per cent) against the Japanese Yen, closing at Rs1.8493. On the other hand, it slipped by 8.01 paisa (0.21 per cent) against the Chinese Yuan, finishing Friday’s trading session at Rs39.05.
