ISLAMABAD: Finally, Hyundai has unveiled the latest generation of the Elantra in Pakistan. The car was undoubtedly one of the most anticipated, especially after rumours suggested that the Korean automaker was considering launching the same model of the Elantra it sells in the international market.
The reason everyone was eagerly awaiting the Elantra was that it was expected to be one of the first compact hybrid cars to be sold brand new in Pakistan.
The Elantra Hybrid was revealed at the Pakistan Auto Show on Friday, alongside other new offerings like the BYD Atto and BYD Seal. After the hype surrounding those fully electric cars, the Elantra Hybrid was the one people were most curious about, as it was expected to be cheaper than the cars BYD was introducing. However, it turns out it’s not that cheap.
The company has announced bookings for the Elantra Hybrid, with the booking amount set at Rs2 million. Hyundai has priced the stylish sedan at Rs9.7 million. Considering this hefty price tag for a sedan, it seems likely that people may lean more towards the BYD Atto 3, as it’s priced slightly lower at Rs8.9 million and is a fully electric vehicle. On top of that, it’s somewhat of an SUV!
However, given that BYD is a new name in Pakistan and Hyundai has been established here for some time, it is expected that some people may still consider the Hyundai Elantra Hybrid, particularly those who are hesitant to try out new brands that are not yet tried and tested in Pakistan.
Still, those who love innovation and are eager to try new technology and brands will surely consider the BYD Atto 3.
We are comparing the Atto 3 and the Elantra Hybrid mainly because their price tags are close to each other. However, the two cars are designed to attract different types of consumers, as one is an SUV and the other is a sedan.
