Electricity prices may go up in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Electricity prices in Pakistan may go up due to a a proposed fuel price adjustment. The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA-G) has formally sought a hike of Rs4.66 per unit in electricity rates. A hearing on CPP’s petition to raise electricity prices is scheduled for tomorrow.

This proposed increase is specifically under the category of fuel price adjustment for the month of November. If approved, consumers will shoulder a substantial financial burden exceeding Rs40 billion.

Separately, the government is poised to introduce further relief for petroleum consumers.

There is an anticipated reduction of Rs1.72 per litre in Pakistan’s petrol price in the upcoming fortnightly pricing update.
