KARACHI: Engro Polymer & Chemicals (EPCL), a subsidiary of Engro Corporation, has successfully launched its new hydrogen peroxide plant in Karachi, representing a significant step forward in its strategy of investing in Pakistan’s economic expansion.
The project, valued at Rs11.7 billion, received support from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to facilitate EPCL’s entry into the hydrogen peroxide market.
The plant boasts an annual production capacity of 28,000 tons and utilises advanced Chematur technology. This local production is projected to replace approximately $11 million in imports, thus decreasing dependence on foreign suppliers and fortifying Pakistan’s industrial sector.
EPCL will produce and market its high-quality hydrogen peroxide solution, branded as PureOxide, through its fully owned subsidiary, Engro Peroxide (Private) Limited. As the sole hydrogen peroxide manufacturer in southern Pakistan, the company is dedicated to providing a dependable supply of high-quality product with safe and reliable delivery under the PureOxide brand.

Customers will experience reduced lead times and costs through efficient, just-in-time deliveries using a safety-focused transportation system. PureOxide will be transported in 100% virgin HDPE jerry cans, featuring pressure-release technology to prevent explosions and a vapour-blocking membrane to minimize fire hazards. Furthermore, PureOxide has a lower carbon footprint and offers greater energy efficiency, as EPCL produces hydrogen as a by-product of its caustic soda manufacturing.
Abdul Qayoom Shaikh, CEO of EPCL, commented on this achievement, stating, “Our HPO business will empower local industries, particularly export-oriented textile companies, enabling them to procure a superior quality product locally.
We are confident that PureOxide will become the preferred choice for customers in Pakistan and beyond, thanks to its unmatched quality, safety, and sustainability.
Ahsan Zafar Syed, President and CEO of Engro Corporation, added, “Our Rs12 billion investment in the hydrogen peroxide plant demonstrates Engro’s commitment to growth and its ongoing faith in Pakistan’s potential.
