Intraday trade: PKR gains 5 paisa against USD

KARACHI: On the second trading day of the week, the Pakistani rupee (PKR) strengthened by 11 paisa against the US dollar (USD).
In early Tuesday trading, currency exchange companies quoted the PKR at Rs278.60 against the dollar.
Since the start of the fiscal year, the PKR has depreciated by 31.11 paisa, or 0.11 per cent, against the US dollar. For the calendar year 2025, it has depreciated by 10.23 paisa, or 0.04 per cent.
In the previous session on Monday, the PKR had gained 5.93 paisa, or 0.02 per cent, to close at Rs278.65 per USD in interbank trading, compared to the previous closing of Rs278.71.
In the open market, the dollar was quoted at Rs278-279.50 for buying and Rs281.20-281.50 for selling by currency exchange companies.
PKR’s performance against other currencies
Here’s how the PKR performed against major foreign currencies on Monday:
Saudi Riyal (SAR): The PKR rose by 1.38 paisa, or 0.02 per cent, to Rs74.27.
British Pound (GBP): The PKR depreciated by 19.24 paisa, or 0.06 per cent, to Rs340.04, compared to Rs339.85 last week.
Japanese Yen (JPY): The PKR gained 0.65 paisa, or 0.36 per cent, to Rs1.7845, compared to Rs1.7910 a day earlier.
UAE Dirham (AED): The PKR appreciated by 1.51 paisa, or 0.02 per cent, to Rs75.87.
Euro (EUR): The PKR depreciated by 35.69 paisa, or 0.12 per cent, to close at Rs287.33, down from Rs286.98.
Chinese Yuan (CNY): The PKR weakened by 5.42 paisa, or 0.14 per cent, to Rs38.08, down from Rs38.03.
Swiss Franc (CHF): The PKR strengthened by 86.96 paisa, or 0.28 per cent, to close at Rs305.21.
Stock market update
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Stock Exchange remained in positive territory on Tuesday. The KSE-100 index was up by 345.35 points, or 0.3 per cent, at 116,190.17 as of 11:07 AM, with a trading volume of 107,493,900.
