FBR initiates digital transformation of Pakistan’s tax system

FBR revenue target shortfall

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has officially entered into an agreement with Karandaaz Pakistan to modernise the tax system, according to a statement released on Friday.

Chairman of FBR, Malik Amjad Zubair Tiwana, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Finance, participated in the signing ceremony.

This development comes following directives from the Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif.

Under the terms of the agreement, Karandaaz Pakistan will provide support for the digital transformation of FBR’s tax infrastructure.

The aim is to streamline processes, ultimately reducing the financial burden on taxpayers, as highlighted by FBR.

This collaboration is expected to pave the way for the digitalization of the economy, facilitate the expansion of the tax base, and ensure a sustainable increase in government revenue.

Addressing the significance of the partnership, FBR Chief Malik Amjad Zubair Tiwana highlighted the board’s commitment to modernise its operations and contribute to the digitalisation of the economy.

Efforts are underway to tackle the challenges posed by the informal economy while also broadening the tax base, he added.
