ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has established a reforms working group composed of 32 officials from the Inland Revenue Service (IRS) and Pakistan Customs Service (PCS) to achieve the ambitious revenue collection target of Rs12,970 billion for the fiscal year 2024-25.
This initiative is part of the FBR’s broader strategy to enhance tax administration and ensure effective revenue mobilisation.
According to an official notification issued on Friday, the working group includes 22 officers from the IRS and 10 from the PCS. These officials have been tasked with deliberating on critical reform areas within the tax administration system.
The reforms are expected to cover various aspects, including procedures, human resources, administration, and taxpayer facilitation, all aimed at optimising the FBR’s operations to meet the assigned revenue goals.
The FBR has directed all members of the working group to convene at the FBR headquarters on Saturday. The initial phase of the working group’s deliberations will continue until August 27, with the possibility of an extension for an additional three days if necessary.
During this period, the group is expected to formulate and recommend actionable reforms that will be instrumental in achieving the set revenue target for the year.
This step underscores the FBR’s commitment to strengthening Pakistan’s tax administration framework, improving efficiency, and enhancing taxpayer services to ensure that the revenue targets are met without imposing undue burdens on the taxpayers.
